I’ve been wanting to get a bidet but I’ve been scared at the prospect of cleaning the bidet/water spout or something along those lines! Or any other related maintenance? Any experience to share there? Another thought is that over here where we live, the water can be particularly “hard” so slightly worried about some sort of buildup/clogging…
Maintenance is relatively minimal. At least for our Toto bidet; I wipe down the bidet once every few weeks and clean the air filter every few months. The wand cleans itself after every use. Interestingly enough, it has a feature that sprays the toilet bowl after use to reduce the cleaning of the toilet too.
As for the hard water, I did a quick search and someone on Reddit commented "The cure is to turn off the water, extend the spray head (button on back of the controller). Let it drain, then soak it in vinegar to dissolve the water scale. You will need to prop up a container with vinegar around the wand to immerse the nozzles for a good soak."
Odds are low unless you sit in an odd way? The spray is often adjustable as well; adjust during a dry test? Remember that this has been "perfected" over many years and billions of people. More likely, fecal matter lands on the wand that sprays, but that is unlikely and using it incorrectly (and the more fancy bidets spray it down after each use).
I can see how a bad experience could scar people from using it again (particularly cold water). That's why I got the more expensive one, so there was no chance that my partner would not like it. Another way of test-trialing a fancy bidet is to go to Japan or Korea!

With that said, the experience is well worth it!
Hi Matt.
First time reader, long time bidet doubter.
I have my reservations, as one wrong move with a bidet could scar me for life.
Odds that fecal matter land on hand or anywhere above the rim?
HAHAHA Love the introduction Tim.
