More likely, fecal matter lands on the wand that sprays, but that is unlikely and using it incorrectly (and the more fancy bidets spray it down after each use).
I can see how a bad experience could scar people from using it again (particularly cold water). That's why I got the more expensive one, so there was no chance that my partner would not like it. Another way of test-trialing a fancy bidet is to go to Japan or Korea!
