The Midwest

It always seems weird how the Midwest was defined to me; everyone seems to have their own view on what they consider to be the Midwest. I found this image on Reddit. It's really odd how the true midwestern states like Wyoming and Montana aren't as strongly Midwestern as Illinois and Indiana. I always considered Ohio to be part of the Midwest; I contribute to this thinking since I'm a New Englander and didn't want the "East"'s reputation by Ohio. And if you don't consider Ohio part of the East, where would you categorize it?
Who would consider Texas part of the Midwest? Definitely more popularly put in the South.
What do you consider to be the Midwest? What states transition into the South? Are these states categorized differently due to political views, physical location, or culture more?
