The New Year Objectives
With a new year, there are aspects of life that I hope to improve upon. I think everyone has things to approve on, but there are more general points where majority of us can be better at doing. In my opinion, these would improve daily living and help enjoy life more.
One of the most important has to being enthusiastic. I feel people are completely unenthusiastic about every activity they take part in, especially those that are repeated numerous times. Children seem to have the most fun doing the simplest of tasks because they look forward to it like it's the first time. I will try to put as much energy in activities as I would if it was my first time like a child would. Even I can be set in my own mindset; I hope to be more open about everything that I may encounter.
Instead of judging or negatively critiquing those who are enthusiastic, we should praise them for what they do.
I have to stop thinking about the possibilities if I were in a different place with different people. As a society, we need to stop trying to be somewhere that we are not. We need to appreciate the company that we are physically with and not constantly on our phones and devices.
But to the opposite end, I have to limit my expectations, whether that be of people, a movie, or the result of an action. Sometimes it can't be helped but it always affects the outcome. It's easier to appreciate something without any expectations.
With technology, I have fallen in the many of traps of instant satisfaction like roaming Reddit. It's good in small quantities, but the overall feeling is almost empty. Digital relationships just don't fill all the holes that physical ones do. While it may be easier to have certain conversations digitally, I feel I could use more personal conversations in person and not just surface talk about sports, weather, and travel talk. Technology should be integrated in deeper relationships, not just increasing the number of surface conversations (sometimes it's even one directional). It seems that communication is easier than ever but has also become more shallow and meaningless than ever too.
